Primary Source Preview

Our last seminar of the 2011-2012 school year is Wednesday, May 16. Amanda McVety will be there to talk about 1898 and the events and changes that happened to the United States in just that year. We will also have the usual "Table Talks," time to work on your lesson study, and fun with primary sources.

Here is the Primary Source Preview, a sneak-peak at the resources you will receive at the seminar. The Huber Manufacturing Company of Marion, which made equipment for farming and road building and maintenance, issued annual catalogs with detailed drawings and descriptions of Huber products. The 1899 catalog was the "Patriotic Edition" and includes a illustrated synopsis of the Spanish American War. Founded in 1875, the company operated until the 1980s.

The Amish on American Experience

Once again, PBS’ American Experience has produced a great documentary - this time on the Amish. Check it out, especially if you teach about religious culture, etc., and the companion website has some great resources for the classroom too. Click on the picture for the link.

Annie Oakley on American Experience

PBS’ American Experience (one of my favorite TV programs) just produced a great documentary on famous Ohioan Annie Oakley. Click on the picture for the link to the page, where you can watch the video and learn more about her life.
